A Logical Thinker, Skilled Troubleshooter, and Data Enthusiast

Basil joined WorkCentive nearly three years ago, noting that among all the companies he applied to, WorkCentive stood out as the only one that kept him updated throughout the hiring process. The level of professionalism and transparency made a lasting impression on him and ultimately led him to accept the role.

What truly piqued his interest during the interview process was a unique spreadsheet challenge. Although Basil didn’t have prior Varicent experience, the logic-based exercise, originally created by Noah Bass, CEO of WorkCentive, during his time at IBM was exactly the kind of problem-solving he enjoyed. The task required creating a formula to calculate car sales commissions that could flex with changing inputs. It wasn’t just about getting the answer right, but about building something elegant and scalable. For someone who enjoys analytical thinking, it was the perfect introduction to the role.

Since then, Basil has become a go-to consultant for clients who already have Varicent in place. His strength lies in troubleshooting and optimizing existing environments. One early project involved taking over a client system originally built by a competitor in the space. Basil stepped in to implement reporting improvements and streamline Prior Period Adjustments (PPA), all while identifying areas that didn’t follow best practices. His work not only improved system performance but also earned the client’s trust. So much so that two years later, the client returned to WorkCentive for a full rebuild - this time with Basil leading discovery and implementation from the ground up.

His consistent ability to deliver results, especially in complex environments, recently earned him a well-deserved promotion to Senior Implementation Consultant. Widely regarded as an expert in his field, Basil is known for bringing clarity and precision to even the most layered challenges.

Being placed in high-stakes situations early on gave Basil the chance to grow quickly. Even when he wasn’t the one building a solution, he often played a key role in identifying problems and recommending approaches that improved efficiency. That mindset stems from his first job out of university, where he worked at a utility billing software company. While in that role, Basil applied his academic background in statistics to real-life challenges, such as detecting outliers in billing data. When a consistent $50 bill suddenly spiked to $200, his logic helped create a system to flag unusual charges for review. It was one of his first lessons in seeing the bigger picture and understanding why each step in a process matters.

Outside of work, Basil applies the same analytical approach to his hobbies. He’s an avid fantasy sports fan who joins leagues in football, basketball, hockey, and baseball, using sports data and statistical analysis to stay ahead. He also loves to travel, balancing active exploration with relaxation. One of his favorite places is Phoenix, Arizona, where he enjoys hiking in the desert, swimming, and sampling Mexican food. Upcoming trips include Banff and Tokyo, both planned meticulously using itinerary apps and a mix of local reviews and data-backed research.

Whether he’s troubleshooting a Varicent build, traveling across the globe, or analyzing fantasy league stats, Basil approaches everything with clarity, curiosity, and logic. We’re proud to have him on the WorkCentive team.
